  • Hello, I am Ms. Saxton. This is my 10th year in education, and my first year at the high school level. I am from Flora, MS. I graduated from Delta State in 2013 and have been employed with YCSD ever since. Welcome to Algebra 1! I am thrilled to be your teacher this year and look forward to an exciting journey through the world of algebra. Algebra is a fundamental branch of mathematics that will equip you with problem-solving skills and provide a solid foundation for future math courses. In this class, we will explore various topics, including equations, inequalities, functions, polynomials, and much more. Algebra is not just about memorizing formulas; it's about understanding the underlying concepts and applying them to solve real-world problems. My goal is to make algebra engaging, relevant, and accessible to all of you.As your teacher, I am committed to creating a positive and inclusive learning environment where every student feels valued and supported. I encourage you to actively participate in class discussions, ask questions, and collaborate with your peers. Remember, there is no such thing as a "stupid" question. We're all here to learn and grow together.

To make the most of our time together, I have a few expectations:

    1. Come prepared: Bring your textbooks, notebooks, calculators, and any other required materials to class. Be ready to engage in lessons and activities.

    2. Be on time: Arrive promptly to class, as punctuality is crucial for maximizing learning opportunities.

    3. Stay organized: Keep your notes and assignments organized in a way that works best for you. This will help you review and study effectively.

    4. Seek help when needed: If you're struggling with a concept or need additional support, don't hesitate to reach out to me. I am here to help you succeed.

Assessment will be an essential component of this course, as it allows me to evaluate your progress and provide meaningful feedback. Expect a mix of quizzes, tests, projects, and class participation to assess your understanding.I believe that with effort, perseverance, and a positive attitude, all of you can excel in algebra. Let's embrace challenges, celebrate our successes, and work together to make this a memorable and rewarding learning experience.I am excited to embark on this algebraic adventure with each and every one of you. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to approach me before or after class, or you can email me at lauren.saxton@yazoo.k12.ms.us.  Let's make this a fantastic year of learning!

    Sincerely,

    Ms. Saxton
