    Hello Parents and Students,

    Welcome to 8th-grade Math!

I hope this letter finds you all in great spirits and looking forward to an exciting academic year. My name is Ms. Dorothy Young and I am thrilled to be your child's math teacher this year. I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself and share some important information about our upcoming journey together.

As we embark on this new school year, my goal is to create a positive and supportive learning environment where every student feels valued and inspired to explore the fascinating world of mathematics. I believe that with dedication, perseverance, and a growth mindset, every student has the potential to achieve great things in math and beyond.

In our 8th-grade math class, we will be covering a wide range of topics, including:

    - Rational and irrational numbers
    - Expressions and equations
    - Functions and relationships
    - Geometry and its applications
    - Statistics and probability

I am committed to making math enjoyable and accessible to all students. We will engage in hands-on activities, group discussions, and problem-solving challenges to deepen our understanding of mathematical concepts and their real-world applications. I encourage students to ask questions, share their thoughts, and collaborate with their peers as we explore the beauty of mathematics together.

Communication between parents, students, and myself is vital to your child's success. I am always available to address any questions or concerns you may have. Please feel free to reach out to me through email at dorothy.young@yazoo.k12.ms.us or by phone at (662) 746-1596.

To ensure a smooth start to the school year, here are a few things you can do to help your child prepare for our 8th-grade math class:

    1. Encourage a growth mindset: Emphasize the importance of effort and perseverance when facing challenges in math. Mistakes are opportunities for learning and growth!

    2. Set up a conducive study space: Creating a quiet and organized study area at home will support your child's focus and concentration during math assignments.

    3. Stay engaged: Be an active participant in your child's learning journey. Discuss math concepts together, ask about their progress, and celebrate their achievements.

I am excited to get to know each one of you and witness the progress and accomplishments your child will make throughout the year. Together, we will build a strong foundation in math and foster a love for learning that will serve them well in their future endeavors.

Thank you for entrusting me with the privilege of being your child's math teacher. I am confident that with our collective efforts, this will be a memorable and rewarding year for all of us.

Looking forward to meeting you at our upcoming Parent-Teacher orientation on July 27, 2023 from 1:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.

    Best regards,

    Ms. Young
