Director of Student Services

Mrs. Gloria Jamison, ED.S.

The Yazoo County School District is participating in an on-going effort to identify, locate, and evaluate all children suspected of disabilities who need special education and related services.    Children through the age of twenty-one (21), residing in the state, who are physically, mentally, communicatively, educationally, or emotionally disabled may be eligible for these services.  Early identification of children in need of special education services is important to each child.

The Child Find Director implements child identification, location, and evaluation of children from birth through the age of twenty-one (21) who are disabled, regardless of the severity of their disabilities, and who are in need of special education and/or related services.  The director works with the local head starts, welfare, health department, and mental health agencies, as well as local education agencies, private schools, juvenile detention center, physicians, and other individuals to identify and locate in-/out-of-school children who may be in need of special education services.

Once a referral is made, the Child Find Director will ensure that the referral-to-placement procedures are followed.  The director works with the Teacher Support Team (TST) and the Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team (MET) at each school to implement this procedure.

The Yazoo County School District has special education classes, which serve students who have physical, mental, communicative, intellectual, and/or emotional disabilities.  Related services such as transportation, physical therapy, occupational therapy, adaptive P.E., counseling, and transitional support are also provided as needed.
